January 2008
Easthampton Presents a Proud Image at the Midwinter Convention!
After a great social on Friday night, Saturday turned out to be quite an event for Easthampton. We started with the business meeting  with multiple reports given by PDGs Jim Gracia and Tom Kowal. Then came the proud moment when the Easthampton Leos followed the Lions up to make their FIRST Midwinter (first EVER) District donations! It was a proud and joyful moment as Leos Caelin Mottor, Kathryn and Hannah Ghiatis and Sharice Delgado were recognized by DG Dennis Fountain.
Then it was off to the Lions/Leos Raffle table where a beautiful basket of goodies created by Lion Rochelle Oelrich was being raffled off. PDG Don Rivest, Lion Pat Kowal, Advisor Larry West, Leos Craig Blair and Tommy Dudkiewicz (Lion Denis’ grill helpers at the Fall Festival) and Leo Caitlin Oelrich joined in the fun. We raised $98 from the raffle!
Next came the wonderful speech contest with a special treat as Easthampton High School Junior Emily DiMartino  won the event and will be advancing to the State level!
Our lunch table was DEFINITELY a lot of fun and we thank PDG Art Thomas for giving the tour of the Eye Mobile to the Leos afterwards. This was followed by a surprise as the Leos found a bunch of MLER canisters in need of filling! It wasn't long before everyone in the area had donated to AT LEAST one of the mooching gang! They raised $72! Got to LOVE it!
It  MUST have been fun! Leo Caitlin complained that she didn’t want to leave at the end of the day and the Leos are already making plans for next year with a strong eye on using the hotel pool!

November 2007
ECC Care Kitchen Thanksgiving Dinner
Easthampton Leos got to serve with style in their new vests at the Nov 13th dinner. Leo Sarah Boyle (president) Faith Patnode, Caelin Mottor, Caitlin Oelrich, Kay and Hannah Ghiatis, Akasia Jamrog-McQuaid, Jeff VanOudenhove and Melanie Fleury joined advisor Larry West and Easthampton Lions President Jay Oelrich in serving over 100 hungry guests.
The next dinner is November 27th followed by a Christmas feast on December 11th and the Leos are planning to be present to continue this new friendship with the ECC.

October 2007
ECC Care Kitchen

Easthampton Leos Caelin Mottor, Hannah Ghiatis, Craig Blair and friend Kevin Ranny joined Lions President Jay Oelrich to help serve meals at the Easthampton Community Center Care Kitchen. While Robin Bialecki led the cooking staff, this group served meals and desserts to about 60 hungry guests.
The ECC Kitchen Care program provides free meals to area residents on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month. All one need do is call the Center and leave a first name and number attending to reserve a spot.
November 19th, the program will have it's Thanksgiving-theme dinner and hopes to see over 100 guests. The Lions and Leos have begun organizing themselves to help serve meals at that event.
Rag Shag Parade
Easthampton Leos Sarah Boyle (president), Craig Lego(VP), Hannah Ghiatis (and her mom), Faith Patnode, Caitlin Oelrich, Shawn, Craig Blair, friend Kevin Ranny and others joined Leo Advisor Larry West and Lions Rochelle and Jay Oelrich to march in the Easthampton Rag Shag Parade on the 29th. This fun-loving gang passed out and tossed candy along the parade route and from the Big E's Supermarket parking lot to a large crowd of goblins, superheros and parents on their way to collect candy at the Williston-Northampton School. The candy was donated by the Lions club who also donates directly to the event.

The Leo Club Charter Night was very active as the Leos were hosting the Sept 28th WBMS dance. This event was a lot of fun with PDG Don Rivest, District 33Y Leo Chair Dianne Daley and VDG Don Adams joining the on-lookers as the induction and installation was carried out by PDG Tom with an assist by Leo Advisor Larry West and KL Jay. IPP Morgan organized a delightful array of dessert treats and soft drinks.
It was a pleasure to see the Leos, Junior Leos (including Caitlin Oelrich) and Leo officers receive their certificates. This was crowned by the installation of Sarah Boyle as Charter Club President, who has proven herself to be a good and hardworking leader already. She helped out at the Fall Festival and setting up the Charter night despite an injured right hand that she banged up while catching a football!
We hand on hand about 40 Leos and Junior Leos to induct and a full slate of officers to install. They included:
President: Sarah Boyle
Secretary: Brett Peyser
Treasurer: Joe Andrews
Vice presidents: Frankie Diaz (1st), Jeff VanOudenhove (2nd) and Craig Lego (3rd)
BOD: Nate Clifford, Zach Pyser, Tiffany Rivera, Sovandy Chhan, Chris Streeter, and Manny Morales
Congrats to all the charter members!
We are currently discussing a joint club outing  (in costume) to hand out candy at the Rag Shag parade and the participation of the 10-12 yr old members in the Peace Poster competition.
Special Thanks to PDG Tom Kowal, Leo Advisor Larry West and IPP Morgan Mitchell for all their help to make this a wonderful event!

The September 2007 Fall Festival, thankfully, saw a bright and sunny day. The single booth provided by the COC would have been much to small for our operation but the addition of our pop-up at the end provided ample room for our crew and the two new portable griddles we used. The menu was hotdogs, ham and cheeseburgers, chips, and candy bars (breakfast of champions!).
Lions Denis, Pat, Rochelle, Paul, Donna, Morgan and Jay and PDG Don where joined by waves of helpful, cheerful and well-behaved Leos who helped us on the everything from the grill to waiting on customers. We sold out of hot dogs and hamburgs TWICE (at least) and made emergency runs to Big E’s to re-supply. We actually had to change the brand of buns because we bought out  the supermarket bins! There were some comments about the missing French fries but less than you would think and, as usual, there was some confusion about having to go next door to the COC booth to buy drinks.
There were times when it got VERY busy at the food booth and we were very lucky to have Leo parents giving us a hand! Leo Angela Taylor's parents, Jenn and Christian Taylor, were wonderfully gracious and energetic serving  our customers and Leo Rebecca Paul’s mom, Dianne, was a wizard spelling Lion Denis on the grill. She had run a school cafeteria in her past and definitely knew her was around a fair food booth! On the kid’s side, Junior Leo Craig Blair became a very useful grill apprentice and hard worker. There were so many great kids lining up to help that sometimes we had to divert some to keep the lanes clear! There is no doubt that we will have a very enthusiastic and positive Leo club!

June 2007
The Easthampton Leos have a car wash scheduled for Monday, 6/4 behind the Municipal Building on Payson Ave. starting at 3:30. The Easthampton Lions Volunteerism Awards will be handed out that week at the WBMS Awards Night and Larry West hopes to acknowledge the 2007-2008 Leo Officers on June 12th at 10:15 during the school activity period.

May 2007
The Easthampton Leos assisted with a carnival at the Easthampton Community Center on May 11th (the ECC newsletter below) and sponsored the WBMS dance on May 18th with the junior Leos activity form 5:30 to 7:30 and the senior Leos for 7:30 to 9:30.

Incoming President Sarah Boyle, VP Craig Lego and Leos Faith Patenaude, Olivia Stankowski, Hannah and Kathryn Ghadios and others joined friends, family and members of the Lions club (President Morgan Mitchell, PDGs Tom Kowal and Jim Gracia, Lions Rochelle and Jay Oelrich and Leos-to-be Lochlan Mitchell Cernak, Caitlin Oelrich and Megan MacIntyre) tossing out candy to parade watchers at the Easthampton Memorial Day parade. This was a lot of fun and well received by the community!

April 2007
Members of the Easthampton Leos joined the Lions Club
in preparing and serving the dinner for the 11th Annual Easthampton Lions School Band Dinner Concert on April 11, 2007.
Leo Club President Sarah Boyle, 3rd VP Craig Lego, Leo Cailin Mottle and Advisor Larry West joined the Lions at the EHS cafeteria to present the spaghetti dinner to almost 150 area residents who came to listen to the musical talents of the WBMS and EHS bands and jazz bands. The concert ran from 5 to 7 pm and tickets were $8 for adults and $5 for 12 and under with the proceeds going to the Easthampton School band fund.
Thanks to the help of band members, parents and the Leo Club, almost $600 will be donated to this wonderful program!
Check out the photos below (click on each to enlarge) of this great event.

Thanks to all for your help!

March 2007

The club is currently organizing an fund-raiser involving an after-school trip to at Interskate 91. They are also planning a "Starve Hunger" food drive, a "Walk against MS", and an eyeglass collection drive.

January 2007

We caught up to the newly forming Easthampton Leo club as they sponsored a dance at the White Brook Middle School. WBMS has a dance once a month each sponsored by a different school program. It is divided into a early evening (5:30-7:15) activity event for the 5th and 6th graders followed by the dance hosted by the 7th and 8th graders.

The adult leadership for this soon-to-be club is Larry West (WBMS guidance councilor and Williamsburg Lion) and Easthampton Lion Lew Scott (a retired Northampton High School teacher). There are currently 35 to 50 kids interested in the program. As you have to be between the ages of 12 and 28 to join, there will probably be a contingent of "Junior Leos" unofficially associated with the Leo Club. The hope is to charter the club in March or April. Currently the only ad hoc officers are a student secretary who keeps the role and a student treasurer for all proceeds collected.

Currently the group tries to meet every Monday at the 10:15 school activity meeting. They have Fidelco scheduled to come and make a presentation at the Jan 17th meeting.

For this particular dance, the Leos made the decorations and posters and had a candy/snack sales table. There was a $4.00 entrance fee for each student which was dropped to $3.00 if they brought in a non-perishable food item. These foodstuffs will be donated to the Northampton Survival Center. The next fundraiser will be selling stuffed bears around  St. Valentine's Day to benefit the American Red Cross.

We are hoping that members of the Easthampton Lions will help organize and participate in Leo activities to form a bond and progression between the two clubs. If this night is any indication, it should be a lot of FUN!
